Loebsack announces more than $4.2 million in Recovery Act funds for service members and veterans

Today Congressman Loebsack announced $4,265,000 in funding from the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and the National Guard Readiness Center in Fairfield will receive funds for construction and facility improvement. These funds are available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Additionally, the Iowa City VA Hospital will receive funding to make repairs and improvements to its inpatient surgical ward and other areas throughout the hospital.

“This funding will make necessary improvements for our facilities and equipment,” said Congressman Loebsack. “This investment will not only bolster medical care for our veterans, improve the readiness of our Iowa National Guard Soldiers, and increase the efficiency of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, it will also strengthen the economy, creating good paying jobs and bringing funds into the district.”

The projects that will receive funding are listed below:

Department of Defense (DOD)
• Iowa National Guard Fairfield Organizational Maintenance Shop (OMS) - $15,000 for high efficiency overhead lighting
• Iowa Army Ammunition Plant - $20,000 for renovating building interiors
• Iowa Army Ammunition Plant - $590,000 for ground energy renovations

Department of Veterans Affairs Funding for the Iowa City VA
• Renovate inpatient medical/surgical ward - $2,280,000
• HVAC Upgrade - $660,000
• Roof repairs - $220,000
• Building interior renovations - $480,000
