SCC, Culver visit Cedar Rapids

Gov. Chet Culver met with Linn County, other state Democrats on Saturday when he stopped by the State Central Committee.

The State Central Committee, which met at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, welcomed a visit by Gov. Chet Culver. The Governor and his staff were also in town to celebrate the reopening of a local flooded business in Czech Village.

In addition to taking questions from the audience, Culver outlined some of the successes and challenges that remain in the final days of the legislative session. He spoke at length about his I-JOBS proposal, and why he believes it is important to put Iowans back to work during the current economic crisis.

Members of the SCC also took advantage of the opportunity to personally thank Culver for his thoughtful response to the recent Supreme Court decision that struck down a law banning same-sex marriage.

The 2009 legislative session is expected to wrap up next week.
